Pop Offerings: Empress Of – Kitty Kat

This is the first installment in a new series we are calling “Pop Offerings.” In our About section we mention we sometimes enjoy “straight up pop music” and we wanted to make good our claim by occasionally posting things we’ve found in the classic pop genre. Today’s Pop Offering is a track called “Kitty Kat” from Empress Of aka Lorely Rodriguez, and the track is nothing if not an assertive call for gender equality. The arduous synth punches hit like a blow to the face of a misogynistic lover, or perhaps just a generation of misogynistic lovers that Rodriguez is calling out. Then come the snarling-yet-pretty vocals layered on top of a violent backing; beautifully laying out her cause and a good case for why the track deserves multiple listens.
