Jacob Newman – Three Spheres

It’s interesting how someone can takes sounds that might normally be an indication of imminent, monsoon proportion, terror in certain places, such as the countries where the instruments in this track find their origin, and turn them into a romanticized, coffee table piece which brings comfort and tranquility to those without the association. Like most of his tracks, Jacob Newman’s piece here, “Three Spheres”,  features a long underlying field recording of a rain storm, which provides a nice backing for the exotic instruments layered smoothly on top. According to his profile, his works are “ambient, soundscapes, tones, textures, field recordings, hypnagogic”. I think I’d agree.
